This might seem simple to some, but I am going to lay out the juicy details on how to interact in the world. As well as explain some of the fine divisions that the board is separated into.
The world is divided by regions. As you can see, the first region you might visit could be Harate Shores. Once inside of the board, you will see a number of threads that detail specific areas, such as cities, or detailed geographical locations.
When you first enter the world, it doesn't matter where you choose to start. You can pick any map you'd like to venture in, but keep in mind that you can't be in two places at once! As long as the thread isn't locked, feel free to post on that thread. But wait! You can't post just anything...
It is required [given the rule book I posted here], that all of your actions are given "in character" and any out of character comments are regulated to two parenthesis (( like this )). If you have any questions, please take them to the dedicated questions board at the top of the forum.
Every single map will have an introduction post that describes the region, and any noteworthy places to visit. It would be tedious to list every single person, building, and event going on in a single city, so oftentimes the most important figures are listed. But that doesn't mean they don't exist!
Let me whip up an example of how interacting in a city might go. I've just finished questing in Harate shores, and I came across a poor fisherman who found a pearl to sell, but doesn't know how much it is worth. He's trusting me to appraise it for him, and if it is worth a certain amount to sell it and buy him some supplies.
So I would go directly into the Magic City thread and write up a post like this [you can be more direct, or more elaborate as you see fit]:
"I enter the city, amazed by the floating structures and buildings, but keeping my task in mind, I head towards the National Trading Headquarters, and search for an appraiser who can appraise the Fisherman's pearl for me."
Now, a moderator will eventually get back to your post.
"You make your way to the trading headquarters and you find a well dressed man bearing a monocle. He takes the pearl from you and nods slightly, handing it back to you. 'The price of this pearl is about 300 or so. It seems quite common, but I know a jeweler who could use it. It's my special offer.' "
Now the player can decide if they want to sell it for that much or not. If it seems a bit cheap, the player might be pressed to refine their search.
"I decide to withhold my offer. I'd like to search for anther appraiser to get a second opinion. As I walk through the market, I'd like to ask a few merchants of someone who is honest and fair."
The moderator might not have a different appraiser, so what you get will depend on what the staff feels is fair. [If you feel like you are ever unjustly robbed, get in contact with a different moderator.]
"After a hard long search you finally come upon another appraiser...they give you a slightly better offer of 350."
If you agree to the exchange, your profile will be modified. The pearl will be taken away, and the money will be added.
Since Magic City can be crowded, you shouldn't normally need to make an extra post stating you'll exit the map. But make sure that you have no other obligation [such as being attacked, being spoken to, or taking part in an event that requires your presence], before leaving.
